A survey on the performance of moving bed biofilm reactor and rapid sand filter in wastewater treatment

Moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) is a process in which attached growth is utilized for wastewater treatment. This process does not require sludge recycling or backwash. Activated sludge processes can be promoted to an MBBR by adding media to an aeration tank. Rapid sand filter is a physical method for the removal of total suspended solids (TSS) in advanced wastewater treatment. The purpose of ...

Performance of Continuous Electrocoagulation Process for Turbidity Removal from Sand Filter Backwash Water

The presence of particles such as algae, clay, organic materials and water-soluble substances often create turbidity or color in water. In recent years, electrocoagulation process has attracted an extensive attention due to its advantages. Since sand filters are widely used in water treatment industry and their corresponding backwash water is large in volume, turbidity removal will save water c...

مقایسه کارایی صافی یک لایه با بستر ماسه و صافی دو لایه با بسترهای لیکا و آنتراسیت در حذف مواد آلی و کدورت

Backgrounds and Objectives: Improvement of water quality standards and inability of mono layer filters in producing such quality caused researchers attended to multi layer filters. Due to specific characteristics of anthracite and leca can improve removal of organic materials and Surface over flow rate. The aim of this research was evaluation performance of dual media filters (anthracite/leca) ...

Use of nutrient response techniques to assess the effectiveness of chlorination of rapid sand filter gravel.

A direct viable counting method was used to rapidly assess the effectiveness of chlorination of biofilms on rapid sand filter gravel. A total of 50% of the cells were nutrient responsive after exposure to 0.5 mg of chlorine per liter, while this value was 25% after exposure to 25 mg of chlorine per liter. A large variation was seen in the numbers of nutrient-responsive cells on different rocks....
